Patna Women’s College on Wednesday organized a lecture on long-term effects of electromagnetic radiations emitted from mobile towers.
Mobile towers have long-lasting harmful effects on every living thing and the electro magnetic radiation (EMR) emitted from these towers affect those who are in the 100-metre radius of these structures,” said Dr Manzoor Alam, recipient of Charter Mark award in 1995 for his work on health care.
Dr Alam said that human body absorbs radiations the mobile towers emit which lead to genetic mutation, increased incidence of cancer, brain tumour, behavioural problems, tiredness, sleep disruption, headaches and various other health problems.
He suggested that an exclusion zone of about 10-15 metres must be marked around the mobile towers.
He also said that mobile phone operators should follow the guidelines and should reduce the man-made radiation in the densely-populated areas.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session in which participants cleared their doubts by putting up questions before Dr Alam.
